This book gives you an easy way into the stories of a country childhood: the farmyard at dawn, the walk down the lane, slate and chalk at the village school, the day the last of the harvest came in. Open it anywhere, read a question aloud and let the talk go where it goes. What gets written down stays, in their own words and handwriting. It is something a screen cannot give: a real book you hold, write in and hand on.
Who it is for
Anyone who grew up on a farm or in the country, and the family, friends and carers who sit with them. The book is made to be shared: with a parent or grandparent, with someone living with memory loss or dementia, or in a care home activity session. In its own words it is gentle, unhurried and never a test, and there are no wrong answers.
What is inside
80 activities, one to a page, across eight chapters: The Farm Yard, Fields and Crops, Country Lanes, Village School, Harvest Time, Village Shops, Home and Hearth, and Seasons and Weather. Each chapter holds:
- 8 reminiscence prompts (64 in all): one question in large bold type above ruled lines for writing, such as "Was there one animal on the farm that you had a soft spot for?"
- 1 word search: an 8 x 8 grid of eight themed words, across or down only, with no diagonals or backwards words.
- 1 Look at This page: a frame for a family photograph and five questions to talk about.
It opens with a contents page and a How to Use This Book page with a note on sharing it. At the back are the word search solutions and a short page on keeping the book.

Returns
If it arrives damaged, misprinted, or not what you ordered, we replace it or refund you in full. It costs you nothing, and you will not be asked to post anything back — just email us with your order number and a photo. Please check your book when it arrives and tell us straight away, so we can have it reprinted quickly; we accept reports up to 30 days after delivery, for books, apparel, totes and caps alike.
