Devotional and Comfort Books

Comfort books for grief, and for the quieter seasons of faith, gathered in one place. These are books to hold and read slowly: the Psalms families reach for in hospital rooms and hard weeks, the hymns most of us can still sing from memory, the Christmas story as it was always read aloud, and gentle journals for the months after a loss. They are for the person who would rather sit with a page than a screen, and for anyone choosing a sympathy gift that will still be on the bedside table next year. Several are set in large print at 8.5 x 11 inches; the memoir journal gives one question to a page. Every book is printed to order, so it arrives new, whether it is for you or for someone you are thinking of.

What is inside

Three scripture treasuries each gather one thing completely: Psalms of Comfort and Strength, The Words of Jesus (the passages where Jesus teaches at length, in Gospel order) and The Nativity (Isaiah, two psalms, Matthew and Luke complete, and John 1). Two devotionals are for reading a little at a time: An Advent with Spurgeon, a morning and an evening reading for each day from 1 to 25 December, and Hymns We Remember, twenty-eight familiar hymns with every verse. Three Comfort from the Psalms grief journals pair gentle prompts with psalms. And two books are for writing a life of faith down: a memory book, and a memoir journal with one question to a page.

Who gives these books, and why

Most are bought for someone else: a sympathy gift after a funeral, when flowers feel too brief; something to read aloud with a parent in hospital or aged care; a book from a church friend instead of a card. They are also bought for oneself, a grief journal for the evenings or an Advent book for December mornings. The book does what a screen cannot: it stays open on the table, it can be written in, and it is still there in a year.

How they are made and shipped

All ten are published under our Sovereign Publishing imprint and printed to order. Nine are 8.5 x 11 inches; the memory book and the three grief journals are hardcover, case wrap. The Faith That Carried Me is a 6 x 9 inch paperback, perfect bound. Our shipping policy states: "Shipping is free on every order, within Australia and internationally. There is no minimum order value. Everything we sell is made to order." It quotes approximately 10 to 12 business days for paperbacks and approximately 4 weeks for hardcovers, as estimates that may run longer for remote destinations or in November and December.

How to choose

Are these books large print?

Seven are set in large print: Psalms of Comfort and Strength, The Words of Jesus, The Nativity, A Memory Book - Faith, Church and Sunday and the three Comfort from the Psalms journals. All except the memoir journal are printed at 8.5 x 11 inches, which gives the type room. The Faith That Carried Me is a 6 x 9 inch paperback.

Can they be written in with a pen?

The three Comfort from the Psalms grief journals, The Faith That Carried Me and the Faith, Church and Sunday memory book are made for writing in, with prompts or questions and space to answer them. Hymns We Remember also leaves room to note where you sang each hymn. The scripture treasuries and the Advent book are reading books.

How long will a book take to arrive?

Every book is printed to order. Our policy quotes approximately 10 to 12 business days for paperback journals and books and approximately 4 weeks for hardcover books, and adds that delivery times are estimates and may be longer for remote destinations or during November and December. For a gift, the policy recommends ordering hardcovers around six weeks ahead and paperbacks around three weeks ahead. Shipping is free on every order.

Which one is the right sympathy gift?

If you know the loss, choose the matching Comfort from the Psalms journal: After the Loss of a Parent, or After the Loss of a Spouse. If you would rather give something to read than to write in, Psalms of Comfort and Strength is the plain choice, in large print.

What if the book arrives damaged?

Because each book is printed individually for your order, we do not accept returns for change of mind. If a book arrives damaged, defective, misbound, misprinted, with missing pages, or materially different from what you ordered, email us within 30 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos showing the issue.
