Both of William Blake's songbooks, complete: all 47 poems, each with a short plain-English note that tells you what happens in it before you read it. Read The Lamb, then turn to The Tiger and hear it answer back. It is a book to read aloud, one short poem at a time, and something a screen cannot give: a real book you hold, write in, and hand on.

Who it is for

For anyone who remembers ‘Tiger, tiger, burning bright’ from school and wants the rest of the book. For readers who like a guide at their elbow, and for families who read poetry aloud together. With a This Book Belongs To page at the front, it is ready to give.

What is inside

  • Songs of Innocence: 19 poems, from Introduction (the piper and the child on a cloud) to On Another's Sorrow, including The Lamb, The Echoing Green, The Little Black Boy and The Chimney-Sweeper.
  • Songs of Experience: 28 poems, from Introduction and Earth's Answer to The Voice of the Ancient Bard, including The Tiger, The Sick Rose, London, A Poison Tree and Ah, Sunflower.
  • A note before every poem saying what happens in it, explaining an old word where one needs it (lot, chartered), and on the paired poems pointing you to the twin in the other half.
  • On the page, the note sits above the poem in 16-point type, and the poem is set in 16.5-point Garamond.
  • An About This Book page on how the two halves mirror each other: five titles appear in both, The Lamb is answered by The Tiger, and The Divine Image by A Divine Image.
  • A This Book Belongs To page for a name and an occasion, and a ruled Notes page at the back.
