Details
Penny sweets in a twisted paper bag, donkeys on the beach, the dinner ladies, Saturday mornings at the pictures. This book gives your family an easy way into the stories of a British childhood, and somewhere to keep them. There is one activity to a page, and every question is open: no wrong answers, no right speed, never a test.
It is something a screen cannot give: a real book you hold, write in, and hand on, filled in over time in their own words and handwriting.
Who it is for
Anyone who grew up in Britain, including people living with dementia, and the people who sit with them: a son or daughter visiting Mum or Dad, a grandchild gathering family stories, or a carer or care home activities team looking for something calm to share. The prompts are printed large, at 18pt, and each one can be read aloud and talked through together, or written in privately.
What is inside
80 activities in eight themed chapters: Sweet Shop Days, By the Seaside, School Dinners, Saturday Pictures, School Days, Playtime Games, Home and Kitchen, and High Street Shops. Each chapter has ten:
- Eight reminiscence prompts (64 in all), each with 14 ruled lines for the answer, such as "Can you describe the sound the paper bag made when it was twisted shut?"
- One easy word search on a small 8 x 8 grid, with words running across or down only (8 in all, solutions at the back)
- One "Look at this" page: a frame where you can place a family photograph or simply imagine the scene, with five questions to talk about (8 in all)
